GORGEOUS Vintage Philips Stereo System - Beautiful Sound & Condition!
Looking for a mint period piece Speaker/Turntable/Amp/Radio combination to really set your room aesthetic on fire and make your dinner guests gasp with envy? You've found it!
Comprising of a beautifully crafted Philips 308 Turntable; fabulous 702 reciever amp; and stunning bookshelf speakers; this system is in incredible condition and sounds as stunning as it looks.
The Philips 308 Turntable has just had a service, and sounds incredible. Manufactured sometime between 1972 - 1975, the 308 is a bit of a hidden gem in my opinion, a wolf in sheeps clothing. From the outside it looks rather like one of Garrards auto-return models, but inside is a different story : very like a cross between Thorens and Dual. It has the renowned 3-point suspended sub-plate carrying the platter and tonearm, a reasonably heavy platter, a low-rpm AC synchronomous motor, and an auto stop/lift mechanism (which is handy if you're still in the bath when the record finishes!). It's not heavily built but there's an air of quality, mostly metal with very little plastic in evidence, and everything's easy to get at for maintenance. It's also for sale separately if you like: See https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/electronics-photography/home-audio/turntables/listing/5228224045
The gorgeous 702 receiver was the top model in the PHILIPS range of 1975. This is a 2 x 18 Watt "Music power" amplifier with a 5-band radio and 5 FM presets. As a design feature, one should note the so-called “thermometer” display used for tone control and FM presets. These indicators move up and down according to the settings made on the buttons and act as a status display.
And the 22RH402 bookshelf speakers are surprisingly heavy for their size, and sound absolutely steller given their vintage and diminutive size. They can even be wall mounted if you like!
This system is truly a joy to look at, to hear, and to own. Grab it now, and relive the golden age of hifi in the comform of your own living room.
