Stunning B&W 805 Matrix Speakers With Vifa Woofers
These stunning B&W 805 Matrix speakers are perhaps the best constructed I've ever come across!
Note that the original woofers have been replaced with high quality Vifa drivers (model P17WJ-00). This midwoofer is one of the classics by Vifa: It’s blessed with a smooth frequency response, an extended bandwidth and finally a friendly roll-off. Perfect for 2-way designs, and so a well specced replacement part in the context of these 805's. How do they sound? Simply stunning!
And those tweeters...oh my! They're a 25mm (1") B&W aluminum-dome tweeter, identical to the unit used in the super-expensive B&W Matrix 801 Series 3.
The 805's cabinet features B&W's multi-cell Matrix cross-bracing, which gives the 805 great solidity and low cabinet coloration; when tapped, the speaker rings about as much as a granite boulder. Cabinet interactions are further reduced by mounting the metal-dome tweeter atop the cabinet in what Martin Colloms has called the "bullet" or "eyeball" tweeter configuration (Hi-Fi News & Record Review, June 1991, pp.42-45).
Here's some recommended reading on the 805 Matrix:

Dimensions: 323mm H by 347mm W by 236mm D. Weight: 8.5kg each.
